  1. I have had the same issues with 464 when I used it by itself. It was my understanding this is a characteristic of 464. You will see a frosted line appear usually around the discolored part of the wax as well. I would get excited when I poured my candles and they had no aesthetic issues - but then after burning them, and cooling - they always had a discoloration where the melt pool was. And the a lot of times (most) the frosted white line would appear with it.

  2. I have made a few for co-workers but keep telling them I'm not done testing and can't sell until then.

Yep, same here. They look at me like 'Why is it taking so long'. I would have never thought it would take this long either. I just tell them, "Well there is A LOT more to it than sticking a wick in a jar and filling it with wax"

I see your name says "RN" behind it. So, I assume you're a nurse too ;) I'm just tired of 12hr shifts. Love my patients. I get attached to them easily! I just would LOVE to made the candle business work out for many reasons. It's a frustrating joy! Best way to put it Ha ha.

One day I think I'm almost there, and the next I'm not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel. Funny how drastic my opinion changes from day to day though. I'm getting ready to test burn 6 jars tonight and then - hopefully then,,,, crossing fingers & toes... then I'll be almost ready! I look at them now sitting on the counter,,, afraid to light them and see failure Lol.....

  3. I know just how you feel!!!! I am close to it my self.

It definitely has it's ups and downs that's for sure! I just made some new ones tonight to try additional wicks. Hoping I nail it this time. I think I'm also being to OCD about it all to be honest. I went today and bought some cheap candles from wally world just to see how well they are wicked. Some of them have out of control flames! Made mine see all the better! I think the candle making is definitely the hardest so far. We changed jars and waxes - and seems like it's taking F O R E V E R to get them the way I want! When really it's only been about a month - but still.... it's making me angry

Today I actually started creating some desert candles and have surprised myself at how well they have turned out for my first attempt - not too bad. It cheered me up some. My plan was not to attempt these at all until I was finished with my candles. Glad I tried it. Has me excited :D

    - Find something different to try when you're really frustrated with one thing. Worked for me.... today anyway, now tomorrow when I'm test burning these wicks (all 6 of them) I will probably be singing a different tune, or drinking something other than coffee ;)   ...... But at the same time it's like I refuse to let this conquer me!

Good luck with this wax madness!

  4. if it works for you and your customers go for it. I think it's a cute idea. Having customers that want them is a plus for you! It's a nice feeling when people request things. I like the fondant mat idea. My husband is just starting soap making, so I might steal some of his molds and mats for my wax melts as well. Still working on some candle ideas at the moment. It's hard to stay on track..

  5. I ordered mine from Vista and had a great experience. They were competitively priced and packaged well and shipping was fast. Each warmer came in its own box ready for resale. Attached is a pic of the warmers in their boxes on my wax rack :) HTH!

Looks nice! Thanks for posting :)

  6. I've been looking at The Edge, and also Vista Wholesale as well. Pretty much just used Google - results are there. I wondered how they come shipped. Individual boxes ready for resale? Does anyone happen to know??

  7. I know that some fragrance oils from CS state that they have to ship them ground due to low flash points. If you want an example, I think Banana Nut Bread is one of them. Go to their site and put it in your cart, pretend you're going to check out and then you'll get the message about the shipping issue with them. Not sure if this will mean anything to you or not. I just always wondered why it was such a problem. I think Sex on the Beach is another oil that states the same. I know for sure Banana Nut Bread is though.

  8. Curious if any of you have had success with wood wicks? Customers wanting them/requesting them? Customers curious about them, but don't buy them? I have to say I just bought my first one at Wallyworld and it's burning on my table now. Looks neat, sounds neat and seems to burn nice. Melt pool is nice.

I'm going to buy some or a sample pack of a few to give them a test. It could be a whole other wicking nightmare - which I do not prefer to go down that road.

Just wondered how it went for anyone else?

  9. Glad to see most candles flicker to a certain degree. I keep trying for a Non-Flickering candle. But then I decided fire flickers, so it has to be normal - as long as not excessive. So, if it's not constant I believe it's normal. However, I would love a flicker-free and mushroom-free candle. Mushrooms drive me crazy. I emailed my supplier asking what wicks they could suggest for me that do not mushroom and what I got back was this message: "All wicks are going to “curl” or “mushroom” or “flower”. No wick is self-trimming, but may fall off if left unattended, but we always recommend trimming all wicks to approximately ¼” before burning to minimize any smoke and to maximize the throw of the candle."

  10. So, I experimented today and mixed some 4627 (40%) with GB444 (60%)

Heated to 190 - added FO/dye at 185 - stirred about 2 minutes then poured into my glass jars. Which were sitting on a kitchen towel on the counter. (unheated jars)

Since they have cooled I have a few cracks in the wax that go almost all the way around the candle. A little bit of glass separation too (not worried about that as much as the cracks). I have never had a candle crack before. I have also never used any form of paraffin either. I usually experiment with soy only. I'm trying to branch out and see what other waxes throw like.

Suggestions for why I have the cracks?? Thanks for any responses!!
