I had this same question Lubella. Anyone know of a way to measure the exact temperature? And how hot is too hot? I have sensitive fingers I guess, as they all feel too hot, but my brother who helps me make and test candles says it really doesn't feel that hot to him. How to really know?

Before I even realized I could just pop my wax melts out I had always poured it out while hot into the trash then wiped out the inside with a paper towel. As long as you get it all wiped out, no mess. A trick I learned doing this though is to bring the trash to the warmer and not the warmer to the trash. I've spilled wax on the floor trying to carry it, or dropped it because it was hotter than I thought.

As far as I know yankee only has hot plate type warmers in there line of electric warmers. After close inspection, I can not find any cracks or holes on the underside of the top of the warmer, but somehow wax always ends up pooling between the top and the hot plate putting off a disgusting burnt smell. I've only ever bought 2 yankee warmers and this has happened on both warmers. Has anyone had this experience, maybe not with just yankee warmers but with other electric warmers of the hot plate type? How frustrating...yankee isn't cheap!

I would agree with the above poster. 4627 has the consistency of thick Vaseline and May work well to help hold it all together.

I also mix 4625 with some 4627 for my melts. I never did any testing per say, I just mixed some up and put it in my warmers and thought it was pretty awesome so I've been going with it ever since.

Well the problem is I somehow lost my hubby's hammer (just vanished!) so I took his chisel and rubber mallet, broke the chisel then took 2 of his screwdrivers....

He doesn't know about any of this yet.....

And he loves that I'm making my own candles and tarts now because he thinks we are saving soooo much money vs buying yankee.....

My favorite scent is pomegranate cider. I got a bottle from lonestar that smells just like the one from yankee, but then I ordered one from candlescience and it was waaaaay off. So disappointed

And I've never like anything patchouli or lavender. So many people love lavender and I just don't get it...

If it helps I found these labels at Staples in the labels/packaging section and they are by Avery and I believe item number is 22822. Very easy to design and print online. My printer is nothing special, and these labels say INKJET right on the packaging, some say laser, and some are suitable for both. Hope this helps!

Oh justajesuschick, you had me laughing. I can just imagined how it looked sitting on my couch in my nighty just shredding away, busting a sweat, and wiping my brow. Especially since anyone could have walked in on me and not realized what I was doing if they couldn't see past the arm of the couch! LMAO!

Back to seriousness....when you guys measure after melting, do you just use a large clear glass measuring cup or something? I always wondered how exactly to measure after pouring the wax. I also use 2 different waxes......will this method still work? Maybe one is denser than the other and would not pour out evenly? Maybe I'm just overthinking this...

I made these clamshell labels myself with some Avery labels I got at staples and a blank template. Do you like? Any suggestions?

This is a hard wax! I use small amounts of it to make batches of 5 clamshells. I spent maybe 2-3 hours shredding a 2 lb chunk by hand on a cheese grater for easier measuring. I'm wondering if there is a technique or even a power tool/machine I could buy that could break it down to at least bits for easier measuring? All tips, tricks, and advice are welcome and appreciated!

I use 4627 wax in candles so I cover my scale with the wax paper then scoop the wax onto the paper and into the presto pot. Sometimes I set tools on it too.

I use 4627 also in 9oz interlude jars. It barely makes a sinking around the wick at all but I still use a heat gun on every one of my candles just because I really like it to be a perfectly smooth finish. I've never done a repour/top off, and as long as I have my heat gun I don't intend to.

Thanks Karen. I actually picked up that counter top(6ft) at Lowes for less than $30! I just put it on top of 2 saw horses and called it a day! I know how you feel about organization, I clean up thoroughly after every batch and am pretty OCD about everything being in neat lines and easily accessible. I have a really nice collapsible wooden display/shelves thing my mom used to use to display products when she sold Country Peddler that I would like to use to put all my finished items on. That will be my next picture post, I just need to make enough items now to fill it up and look like a pro

Aaahhh soap! Don't even get me started:o this hobby is expensive enough as it is. Already spend 1000 for my first month! My fiancé is all for this hobby because he thinks I am saving money making my own rather than buying from Yankme. I just laughed and laughed....

And yes, I just cleaned up to take the picture. Back to my mess!

Next stop, labels/packaging! If anyone has any advice on where to start as far as having some kind of sticker labels made let me know!

Btw I'm very nervous about soap making, I've only ready about CP soap and it involves lye. If you knew me you'd know im the clumsiest mf you'll ever meet. Just last Christmas I managed to superglue my eye shut trying to repair a Christmas ornament. What a nightmare!

Here's some pictures of my little workshop I built in my basement (all by myself!) and a couple other things. I'm brand new to this (started less than one month ago) and think I'm off to a good start. All I'm missing now is a little toaster oven to warm my jars.

So I ended up double wicking this jar with a number of htp and eco combinations and I think I have a winner! 2 Eco 4s seem to be doing the trick! There was a fair bit of hang up until I got halfway down the glass and it all ended up melting away making a perfect melt pool, glass not too hot, flame not too big or smokey or anything. May not work tomorrow but glad it worked today!

I saw this video too, how embarrassing! Love the candle warning idea hehe!

Sounds wonderful. I love cherry anything. I just got amaretto nog from candlescience (no this is probably not what you are looking for) and I have yet to put it in a candle, but oob it lacks the cherry-nish that I was hoping for. If you find a good cherry amaretto let me know, I'd love to try it!
