I had the impression that you were very new to candlemaking, as your moniker implies. I've been making candles for a year now & I'm no where near the thought of selling. When someone at work expresses an interest to buy something I take to work, I tell them that my candles aren't yet worthy to be sold but if they would be willing to test my candles for me, then we should talk. Rather, the 'canes you made just looked small in diameter (I'm guessing 3" or so), & it occurred to me that if you put a tealight or a small container that the heat would probably melt the sides, as your dh already discovered. When you're ready to make more 'canes, you'll want to use a high melt point wax. The plus thing now is that you're learning technique & gaining experience, & that's always a good thing.
