ksranch Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I couldn't get along without mine. Probably depends on how much you are making... how often are you melting wax? It'll be a personal decision, but if you are melting more once a week or so I'd have to think it would be worth it - it just makes it so much easier! Quote
livelaughlovejs Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) Thanks right now I am melting wax....every once in a while when there is a birthday or house warming etc or I get inspired by a new candle project Edited February 22, 2012 by livelaughlovejs Quote
Scented Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Yeah it's nice to have one on hand, plus it holds way more than a dang pour pot! Quote
chuck_35550 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Hands down the best investment you can make. Keep an eye on your temps though, the presto tends to over heat most wax. IMHOSteve Quote
rjdaines Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I worked with the double boiler method for quite a while and it was a pain. Now I have a Presto Pot for each type of wax I routinely use. About 8 oz is the smallest candle I will make. Quote
deb426 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Even if you are just fooling around with candles, a presto pot will make your hobby much more enjoyable. Quote
TallTayl Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Simple answer --- YES. ditto times 100. Quote
puma52 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 YES!!! It will make your melting and life much easier! I have the presto pots with the spigots and I just love them!! I clip my thermometer on the inside to watch the temp. Quote
crazzie Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Oh Yeah! I thought I had it made with my little gas burner and double boiler, Wrong!Presto pot is the BEST!! Quote
Stella1952 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I make candles for friends and familyA Presto is a great tool only if you are melting more than a pound or two of wax at a time or pouring at least once a week. If you are making less than that, try a smaller appliance such as a Fry Baby. Quote
Faerywren Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 A presto pot isn't expensive and it makes things so much easier, even if you only need it once in a while. Quote
LadyJo Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 i make candles for friends and family is the presto pot worth the cost for me?yes !!! Quote
simply fragrant Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I have two and love them, they are worth every cent! Quote
blacktieaffair Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Even if you're only going to do 3 lbs of wax up, you can put in how ever much you want, get it hot, use what you want, then turn it off and put the lid on it nice and tight, and it'll be good to go next time, just heat it back up.. use it as a melter and a storage unit. Doesn't take up much space at all and really .. who wants to clean up a double boiler every single time you pour a lb or two of wax ? Quote
Candybee Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I have another option for you. When I am not using my wax melter because I only want to heat 1 lb or less wax I use a flat electric griddle pan. I put my wax in my pour pot and on to the griddle to melt it. Works like a charm without having to heat up the meltor for a small 1 lb batch of wax. Quote
IwantItgreen Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 If you are only doing 1 lb at a time once in awhile, I would just do the double boiler, maybe I'm cheap, but I really can't see having to store another piece of cookware that I don't use much. JMHO. Quote
Candybee Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) I use it all the time for keeping my pour pots hot while stirring wax and adding FO, dye, etc. Never make candles without it. But it is also useful in making a very small batch of wax too as I mentioned.Sorry I just can't stand using the double boiler method. Ick!! Never again. Edited February 25, 2012 by Candybee Quote
Stella1952 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Sorry I just can't stand using the double boiler method. Ick!! Never again. Ditto. Been there, done that, cleaned up the last mess.I really can't see having to store another piece of cookware that I don't use much.If you are pouring THAT few candles, all your supplies should fit neatly into the Presto. :-) Quote
EricofAZ Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 The Presto sure made life easier for me and I think it is a lot cleaner and safer than the double boiler method. Quote
Dana Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I use the large commercial melters mainly but LOVE my Presto for testing and small pours. I have used this Presto for over 8 years now and never had any problem with the coating chipping off like some others have had. I was just wondering where to get a replacement when this one dies. The ones at Walmart now are smaller than mine that I bought 8 years ago....don't they make this size anymore? Quote
