megandgarr Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I saw a few posts a recently, and a few posts about this wax years ago, but there arent very many reviews. Have you tried it in tarts (blended with a pillar/votive/tart wax to firm it up)? If so, how does it compare to other wax/wax blends? I have 10 lbs of it and plan to do some testing (blended with Ecosoya PB or 4625), but I was just curious if others have used it and how the hot throw is? Quote
glowworm Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I have been testing the 6098 in my tarts as a blend for a couple months now and have had really good results mixing it 50/50 with 4625. I have finally narrowed most of my tests down to this blend and the ky parasoy. I know some people don't have very good results with the ky parasoy but it does really well with almost all of my fos (as does the 6098 blend). I do have to say I am leaning towards the 6098 blend for my mainstay tart wax because it definitely throws a much deeper and richer aroma than the ky. As for longevity though, I am not great at evaluating this as good as others. My house is very open with high ceilings so what I say is great ht for 8 hours in my house tends to be 18-24 hours in my sisters house...so if you do test this would you please post back what you are getting? jeanie353 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) I've been using 4625 as my tart base since early summer after switching from another pillar/tart wax. I've mixed it 50/50 with 6098, 4630, J50 and CBL125. The best results I've gotten were 50% 4625 and 50% 6098. I was very pleased with the aroma and the staying power of them. glowworm....I did get 2-3 days which would be about the same as you got at your sisters house. I did not have my tart warmer/tart burner on for the full 2-3 days though so to put it into hours is a little hard. I would turn it on when I got up in the morning and turn off when I went to bed. If I had to leave the house, I'd turn it off then as well. Next best was about the same between CBL125 and 4630 blended 50/50 with the 4625. I didn't get into the 3rd day with that blend but did get 2 days out of them. All in all....As long as 6098 prices stay reasonable and I can get it from a supplier close by due to shipping, I will stay with that blend. At the same time, I wouldn't hesitate to switch to either CBL125 or 4630 if the price or shipping costs of 6098 changes. When I would consider them no longer good is when the HT started to become weak...not when it was gone. A few times I did get a waxy smell before the scent became weak. It was only on a couple FOs that happened so I considered it to be those particular FOs rather than the blend.HTH Edited February 10, 2012 by jeanie353 Quote
glowworm Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Jeanie...how long do you let your melts with the 6098 cure before testing and determining ht ie. awesome, good, mjild or dud? The 6098 has more soy in it than any other blend I use (in melts and/or candles) so sometimes I think I might be jumping the gun a bit with testing and too quick to dismiss certain scents. Quote

Actually, for home use I'll burn them right away and to me they are really good and do last. The ones made for customer sales end up getting some cure time while they are waiting to be sold. I'd say give them a 3-5 day cure time and you should have no problem determining which FOs are good or not-so-good.I should add that while I love 6098 for the tart blend (with 4625), I'm having a bit of a problem getting good HT out of it in a container candle. Have shelved the container making with 6098 for now while working with a couple other paraffins and a soy. I think the problem is in my wicking seeing they have very good HT on a burner/warmer which could also be due to the help of using 50% 4625.Edit to add....To answer your question more directly...I have not had a FO that did not have very good HT yet with this blend. I use CC, Peak, CS and RE/AH. I'll usually go off fragrance reviews on the board...and so far, so good.HTP and Good Luck Edited February 10, 2012 by jeanie353 Quote
glowworm Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 That was very helpful Jeanie, thank you. Maybe I need to just stop being such a perfectionist LOL. I am just starting to mess around with the 6098 as a blend in containers now so that should be interesting Quote
