JoysousDesigns
This is the list of ingredients she usedBeeswax 3 ozs.Mango or Shea Butter 3 ozs.Liquid Oil like Almond, Grapeseed or Jojoba 3 ozs.Castor Oil 1 oz. (Can sub Lanolin for the Castor)Fragrance oil or Essential Oil to suit (For this size batch I would start at 0.1oz.)Mica or oil based colorantsI am wanting to use this on my sons eczema, hoping the natural ingredients wont sting and that i can mould it into cool shapes so he actually wants to use it. If I omit the FO and the colourants any ideas on if this should/shouldn't sting?
Stella1952
I don't see anything "stingy" in there, but then again, I don't have eczema...
JoysousDesigns
Me either, thats what I thought, thanks for your help, now...only the search where to find all the things i need. Thanks for your help
Stella1952
Soaper's Choice has nearly all the ingredients... Jojoba would be the best choice of the "liquid oils". I don't know what state you are in - if you can let us know, maybe folks can refer you to a local supplier where you can buy in smaller quantities. Beeswax pastilles & FOs (might wanna be careful with fragrances in case your son is sensitive to these) or EOs (research EOs and use only in light concentrations) are available at nearly all candlemaking suppliers - you may even have a local beekeeper from whom you could buy some. Mica and other colorants are availible from soapmaking suppliers. Many are listed here - check out the stickies at the top of the forum, also in the General Candlemaking forum under Helpful Links for Newbies - abbreviations & supplier websites. Seems like I have read about pine tar soap being very good for eczema, too... Good luck! Edited October 6, 2011 by Stella1952
JoysousDesigns
I am in Australia, and country Australia at that so it has to be an online store, and I have checked out a few but can't seem to get everything from the one to save on postage. Will keep hunting thanks for your help, I thought for obvious reasons I would use no colour or scent. If it works I dont mind the smell or colour being a bit off
Scented
The butters will be soothing and somewhat conditioning. Depends on what oils you use, but those will be more emollient. There are essential oils you can use to help sooth eczema, but you'll need to do a search on them. You can get all of the ingredients from places like The Sage, http://www.thesage.com/ as long as they ship to your country. The Herbarie should have all of that as should Lotioncrafter and most cosmetic companies. Hope that helps you!
Lorelei
Nearly all recipes that have "eczema" contain Castor. I read something about it here in an old thread you might want to do a search.
CareBear
Shea butter aggravates my son's eczema. He finds mango soothing, though.
soapbuddy
It should not sting unless he has an allergy to any of the ingredients. You can always sub butter for butter and oil for oil. If you make a small batch, you can tweak it the way you like it.

Pam W
I've had a few eczema outbreaks in the past few years and discovered that if I apply a dab of straight castor oil on the area when it first starts, that it goes away quickly.
