AnnieD
New to the world of soaping here. What is the best way to experiment with color and/or fragrance without wasting soap base?? Would mixing in an equal amount of water give me a good idea or maybe mixing it in mineral oil??? I don't want to waste soap. Thanks!

jackbenimble
I don't believe that is possible. That's why everyone on here says this is an expensive hobby to get into. You can't cut corners to get good results. HTH! :-)
Candybee
You can add any body safe dye to M&P soap. Its best to get them from a refutable soap supplier so you can see that they are designated safe for use in soap and body products. I use both micas and FDA approved liquid soap dyes. Some natural dyes can be used such as paprika or other ground spices, pomegranate, berries or other fruit juices, boiled onion skins, teas & coffees, etc.Since bases vary in opacity and clarity from one supplier to the next getting an exact color is a matter of trial and error. But after a bit of experimentation you will get a 'knack' for what dyes work best in your base and for mixing and blending colors. It also helps to buy or google a color chart to learn to blend primary colors to get shades of color you desire. For scenting your soap be sure to use soap/body safe FOs, EOs, extracts, etc. If you have one thats safe for use in soap feel free to try it out. For 1 lb of soap I generally use about 1 tbs (1/2 oz) of FO. Or 1-2 tsp EOs or extract. Some may be strong or weak so you can adjust your amounts from there.I never worry about "wasting" M&P soap. I can reheat it and make a new soap out of it. I can change the scent by adding more base and scent. I never have leftover scraps. M&P makes the best recyclable soap. AnnieD
Well, thanks for the replies!! I like the idea of blending colors and scents! Just don't know that I have enough friends/relatives to give all the soap to!
