EricofAZ
Been experimenting with wax mixes. I like the way the Genwax 128 throws but it won't hold much FO beyond about 3 or 4 percent. I was mixing with Harmony and it allowed for much higher FO loads and threw like crazy. So recently I ran out of Harmony and substituted 4786. NOT! That wax, even in small ratios, sticks to the plastic clamshells and you have to dig it out.The Harmony/Genwax pops out real easy.
AlwaysWondering
Thanks for sharing! At what temp are you pouring into the clamshells?
EricofAZ
Ha! you ask! Well, um, I'm guessing around 135 or so. I use a presto and generally pour into a pour pot first and then fill the clamshells. I have an IR temp gun so I'll check tonight and report back. What temp do you pour at? EricofAZ
I made more tonight with the right mix. Looks like I'm pouring around 155.
AlwaysWondering
Thanks Eric - 155, wow. It's not warping your clamshells? Lucky you! I pour at about 135 into clamshells. I started testing and using soy so I could pour this low but can't stand working in soy.
EricofAZ
No, doesn't warp the clamshells. I have some that did warp, but it was because they were near the heatgun when I was doing tops on votives. I might try a cooler pour temp and see what happens. SuzyK
I pour about 155 for my clamshells too. On one I forgot to let it cool and poured too soon and I think the temp was in the 170's. It warped. I use all soy.
EricofAZ
So I poured at 138 on a cooler version. It had bubbles in the top. Very bad looking. But it popped out of the shell nicely when I tried it after the cooling. This was my genwax/harmony blend, not the 4786/ genwax blendI think the hotter pour is nicer, just best to find the right mix. No more 4786 for me. Edited May 16, 2011 by EricofAZ
EricofAZ
Tried pure 4786. Forget it. This wax sticks to everything. Its made to stick (glass). Do not use 4786 in any quantity for anything other than containers. Bad choice. I think comfort will also be in the same category.
IwantItgreen
I think comfort will also be in the same category.I used a blend of comfort and soy PB. It worked very well.
EricofAZ
Ok, good to know about Comfort. If that doesn't stick to the clamshell then I might try it.
