vng510
Hi Everyone,When I made some candles this past weekend, I noticed that the color of the candles are not even - there were some noticeable white spots. I was wondering if the reason for these white spots is because I used crayons instead of candle dye. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! mrsadler05
The white spots could be frosting from uneven cooling or cooling to quickly. Make sure your containers are preheated (in oven set to 170 degrees) before pouring your wax into them. Try cooling your candles in a small room with a room heater or in a cooling oven.I don't use any dye but I think I remember reading somewhere on here that using crayons to color your candles can actually clog the wick. Search crayons and read up on it.Good luck!
Sharon in KY
Some types of Pillar get white spots called fingernails. I tried soy crayons to color my candles years ago. Everyone was right, it clogged the wick. Flame was really low and you could see the blue color burning in the wick. Was a pretty color though. Scented
Show a picture of your white spots for a better answer. Not saying it wouldn't be the fingernailing, but it could be mottling too. Likely not caused by your form of colorant, which I would steer away from using.
