rebeccajo99
Since I found out that you can make a lotion bar without a preservative, I got to thinking and wondering if you can make a shampoo bar and conditioner bar without preservative too.I found some recipes for a shampoo bar, but they are mostly CP and/or HP. I'm not ready to try that yet. Is it possible to make a shampoo bar using M&P. I did find one recipe, but it didn't get good reviews, so I'm hesitant to buy the ingrediants that I'm missing:sad2:Also, if anybody has a conditioner bar recipe that would be great. I'm not finished searching for this yet, but thought I would ask just incase I didn't find anything. Thanks in advance. You guys are great!!! katshe
I am pretty sure you dont need a preservative in a bar of soap. I have never used a preservative in my cphp. That being said, I am not sure about using bar soap on your hair though. I have tried a recipe once and hated what it did to my hair...but that's just me.found a bunch of shampoo recipes you could look athttp://hmbeautyrecipes.homestead.com/HAIRshampoorecipes.html
Johnna
I am not a soapmaker but I get shampoo bars when I am at the Disney Marketplace. The store is called Basin. It takes very little for a good lather and if you keep the bar dry seems to last a long long time. http://www.basin.com/web-cart/customer/home.php?cat=259Have to go to Disney or Vegas when I restock.. they have bath bombs that are amazing too.. Scented
Keep your eyes on your lotion bars though. If they are constantly in and out of humidity, they may start growing things. You don't need a preservative for soap. Some soapers use tocopheryl to help keep their oils from going rancid and it appears on their labels. Some, though, do add vitamin e and that can't be listed on a label as vitamin e, because it is considered a drug (last I knew), but you can list tocopheryl. Vitamin E though isn't a preservative. Faerywren
Most solid shampoos are known as syn det (synthetic detergent) bars. Search for recipes on the web and you'll get a lot of hits, as many soapers make them.As far as a "real" soap to use as shampoo, I've never found a recipe I liked. My husband uses my soap on his hair, but he has a "high and tight" haircut, so he's not washing much

I don't have any vitamin E... where would I even buy that? Is there any other way I could combat the humidity with them? Like tins or another type of packaging? I have only made 1 test batch so far, and I really din't care for the feel of it. Was going to try another recipe today.
LuminousBoutique
As far as a "real" soap to use as shampoo, I've never found a recipe I liked. ditto. I've tested over 10 recipes... none give me the clean feeling I am looking for. I use a non SLS shampoo and pay dearly for it but love what it does for my hair. Sure I'd love to find a bar that works for me, but all the ones I have tested by purchasing or made myself leave my hair feeling like it has build up, cant stand that.the "solid shampoo" I've seen most commonly is just SLS...
