DelphicScorpion
Kind of a dumb question? I'm just wondering... When you see an ingredient list (for just a basic soap), what is the ingredient that cleans? Or what do you use? Thanks.
Kitn
It is the soap as a whole that cleans, imho.
topofmurrayhill
Yup. The active ingredient in soap is soap. Soap cleans. I don't think it's considered antibacterial, but it will certainly decrease bacteria on your skin just from the act of washing. And I suppose most of the little buggers don't really like to live in soap because of the alkaline pH.
DelphicScorpion
Oh, okay. My mom is real big on antibacterial stuff, has been my whole life, so it just didn't occur to me that soap washed anything without it, haha.Thank you!
CareBear
the "active" on cleansers labeled "antibacterial" is triclosan.but it's no better at preventing the spread of disease than is soap. plain old soap.
topofmurrayhill
You know what triclosan is actually really good for? It helps keep kitchen sponges fresh when it's in your dishwashing liquid. They don't get funky as easily so you get more use out of them
