How exactly does applying a bit of warmth like that affect the lye that makes it gentler to the FOs? What does that change about the saponification process? Technical minds want to know. CareBear Posted April 11, 2010 Share Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) With HP, you speed the saponification and thus the consumption of the free caustic to completion before adding the FO so you are sparing the FO the contact with the lye.
