topofmurrayhill
The normal design for good quality paraffin tapers already pretty much incorporates your ideas. You use close to the smallest flat or square braided wick sizes, typically 15 ply or 6/0. 145 MP wax works well and you'll want an additive for some some strength and opacity. You can use a lot of stearic or 0.5% to 1.0% of one of the fancier additives.I don't know how much you can max it out, but try some variations of wax/additive/wick to optimize for burn time and see what you can get. I've never tried it with 150 MP wax, which might be worth a go. The wick does have to be large enough to burn the mixture effectively and use up the wax as fast as it melts, or the candle will drip.
