brempel
I have a request for 12 pillars in black. I have never made black before. Has anyone had a good pillar in black. Which wax works best to get a good black and where do you order your color from.
Dustpuuppy
I did OK with paraffin with a good bit of stearic and black dye from Peak's.

Starr
I make black candles all the time. Black leather scented candles have been fairly successful for me. I use black dye chips from Candlechem and straight paraffin wax (no soy blends, no matter how much dye I've used, I cannot turn soy black). You'll need at least 3 chips per pound depending on what type of wax you use and I would suggest lots of little test pours on wax or parchment paper before you pour your pillars. Good Luck
brempel
Thanks!
Darbla
I used 30 drops of Peak's black liquid dye and got an acceptable black. It's still not quite as deep as I want it, but I'm afraid if I use any more the scents and wicks will be affected.
nursenancy
I've made black palm pillars And black soy containers with evo black dye from candlewic. I got an acceptable black with the soy, surprisingly enough. Can't remember how much dye I used, but I don't remeber it being THAT much more than usual.. Dustpuuppy
BTW. A little blue, especially a navy blue or cobalt blue, will help make black, blacker. It kinda gives it a sort of depth.
radellaf
IGI's Pillar Blend paraffin and 1 chip/lb of Flutter Dye black worked for me. They're chips shaped like butterflies, and from what it sounds like, the black must be very strong.
Scented
Usually color my patchouli candles in black ... pillar wax and peak dye.
Stella1952
I like the Reddig-Glo dye chips for palm wax. The EVO liquid black does a good job with palm, too, but I've never gotten more than a dark charcoal grey with either in soy - 'course I chickened out after 10 drops pp or so... For a real, BLACK black palm wax candle, I pour cool deliberately so the crystals don't make it look "frosty."
