faerydust
I just bought a new case of the igi 1246 pillar snowflake wax. I poured up some pillars last night for my mom and i noticed that while the molds were still hot to the touch the wax was pulling away from the molds already:sad2: I have actually never poured a pillar that pulled away from the sides of the molds like these and my last batch of this wax didn't do it either. Do you think it could be the weather? It just got cold up here and i didn't warm my molds first.....So i have my repours to do today and its just weird to have to repour them when they have separated from the mold already!!! I know this is gonna get messy....Also i used a bit more stearic than i usually do with this wax because she wants them for the weekend and this wax tends to bleed a bit so i didn't want to have to mess with that! the stearic wouldn't make it pull away would it? thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dee
Don't know if it was the steric, but do know that when I only use steric, my pillars com out of the mold easily compared to other additives.

Pam W
I'd just do the repours carefully and then hit 'em w/heat gun if needed to smooth them out....don't see the need to melt 'em down & start over.
topofmurrayhill
It's not unusual to see this if you try to mold certain higher MP waxes as pillars -- this one for sure. I don't know if stearic affects it or not.The finish on the candle is going to be screwed up where it separated, probably all around the bottom. I'm sure it's only separating at the top of the mold, so there will be a curve. I suspect you'll want a do-over.Pour hot, like 190, then cut the skin on top in a circle around the wick or pin before it gets too thick. A craft knife is handy for that. Then push the center in a bit. You might have to do that a couple of times, then later you can make regular relief holes in the depression.Personally I think this must be a great wax for something, just not candles. It can be hard to mold and doesn't mottle nicely. Despite the high MP it's such an incredibly narrow cut paraffin that it doesn't hold FO very well.
