Daves'sHomemade Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 1st post so bear with me please.......Thanks for all the great advice and suggestions I see posted here, it is a great source for knowledge. Enjoying my new candle making experiences so far. I have had great success in making votives that burn and smell great. Using IGI 4794 and it has worked out GREAT. I have made and burned at least 120 of them so far as well as giving as gifts (testing). My question is I would love to get a mottling effect without using a mottling wax such as IGI 1274 as I am having so much success with the 4794. Any Suggestions? I appreciate any responses. Thanks Dave Quote
topofmurrayhill Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 You can't get a mottled effect with 4794. Quote
Scented Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Get a straight paraffin. Premixed waxes will have additives that kill the mottling. Things like 1274, 1343, 4055 (think it is) will mottle. Ask your supplier(s) for a wax that will work as not everyone carries IGI waxes and some number the waxes differently. Quote
Starr Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I'm usually trying to avoid mottling but I understand that IGI 1246 is supposed to be very good for it. I once bought IGI's 1313 as I was told it was a translucent wax that didn't mottle. Apparently I misunderstood, it mottled like crazy. Made pretty decent candles from what I remember but it was a while back. Quote
kimmeroo Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Hi.. I used to make mottled candles..I love them! I am from NY so I order my wax from Candles and Supplies..I always bought their 125 straight paraffin..It mottles great..no need to add anything it is already set for mottling. The very first time I poured I was scared to death I had bought the wrong wax..it was translucent and I was so mad...but the next day I saw the mottles and then was very pleased by the results. It takes a while to get the mottles..at least for that wax it did..and that is the only wax I ever used. Good luck..and post some pics when you decide on what wax you will be going with! Kimmeroo:smiley2: Quote
