Maple River Candle Co. If this seller is on this board.. congrats! You are rocking it!

I have been watching your auctions for several weeks after one of my customers sent me a link to you. They must be some freaking awesome candles because they come back and bid on them over and over.

Here's the link:

Like I said I have been watching her for a few weeks... they usually go very high when she introduces a new scent. She only lists a couple at a time since I've been watching.

It's insane.. I'd love to sell 2 candles for $100.. that would rock!!!

Take care,

Chele

It's a fake bidder who's pushing up prices to try and sucker someone.

Just go through feedback and click on view items, then click on bids. All this person's items have the same history. Same bid structure and the same names.

Sorry, had to break it up because of the coding for those things counted over 10k characters. Point is, either she's EXTREMELY lucky and has an EXTREMELY devout following, or she's got morons for bidders who, on lots of products, outbid themselves.

The reason it's more fishy is because of automatic bidding. What this person does is set a super high limit by one of the accounts. A second comes in and bid under, driving the bid number up, making it look like a hot commodity. (Also why you see it appears someone is bidding against themselves, it's really a failed bid by the second account to add numbers. For every time you do this, you get TWO bids for the price of one, so to speak.)

THEN, it turn drives the pricing up. With a day left to go or so, they don't touch a single thing and hope that some poor soul swoops in and bids and buys the candle at the inflated price, because they will be at the top for both price AND bid amounts. Many people search by how many bids were placed, to see what's "hot" and what's not.

I reported this person for shill bidding. I'm sure there will be more things to come.

Unless I'm looking at things wrong, if you click on their store and go to their items they have another candle for sale with the same bid history:confused:

Well, I was going to be the 1st to reply to your post on these candles, because I knew what was going on....., then went to the auction and yes, same bidders on both candles......I've been a buyer for more years that a seller on ebay for years and alot of sellers have people that bid on their items.

Don't ever assume that a candle will go for that price and not think something's "fishy".

Really Chele, what was your point? Who cares? Sounds like it's probably you bidding on your own candles, LOL

This bidding is nothing new to ebay. I didn't even know ebay was still around with all the crooks running amuck there for years now, LMAO!

14343834_6004986.jpg

My point was it's amazing to see someone getting $50 for 20 oz of wax.. nothing more. If you don't really care about ebay or this thread... why comment?

I was watching a gal on ebay doing the same thing 9 years ago and it was actually my inspiration to make candles... Now we have over 50 wholesale accounts coast to coast, fundraisers booked into next spring and a successful internet business. I make a living off my business and employee several others. I'm sort of new to this board but far from new to this business.

And no it's not my auction... not sure what your point was...

Take care,

Chele

Gosh, what a beautiful candle...I am far from making a candle like that but it sure gave me some ideas for the future.... Oh it was so pretty...

I could not possibly afford to have one but I refuse to pay for a candle now that I make them...LOL I would just have to look at it because all the testing I do I would never get to smell that one..:P

Thanks for the link to the oh so pretty candles and for the new ideas!!!!

I've sold Yankees for over $40 on ebay. They were retired scents, but all bids were legit. I've seen Yankees sold by other people go for over $100, so it's possible that people really want this lady's candles.

Even if she is practicing shill bidding, nobody has a gun to anyone's head forcing them to buy her candles. If the sucker doesn't make that last minute bid, then the candle maker doesn't make any money, so what?

Well, the only way to be certain is to report it to eBay for Shill Bidding -- so I did. We shall see what happens. If it is shill bidding, ebay will cancel the auction and reprimand the seller. One of my pet peeves is shill bidding!

Just some info on shill bidding:

-----------------------------

Shill Bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. Shill bidding is prohibited on eBay.

Because family members, roommates and employees of sellers have a level of access to item information which is not available to the general Community, they are not permitted to bid on items offered by the seller–even if their sole intent is to purchase the item. Family members, roommates or employees may purchase items from a seller without violating this policy simply by using purchase options–such as Buy It Now–which do not involve bidding.

eBay strongly encourages sellers with employees to ensure that their employees are aware of this policy and the possible consequences of violation.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

Listing cancellation

Limits on account privileges

Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on canceled listings

Loss of PowerSeller status

Referral to Law Enforcement

People will only pay what an item is worth to them. If somebody artificially inflates a price by shill bidding the honest buyer can just forego the item.

It's no different than people who are willing to spend $150 on jeans in a department store. If you want those jeans then you'll pay that much to get them. If you think it's too much, you simply don't buy them. You don't have anyone to complain to that the manufacturer shouldn't be charging that much. Why should ebay be any different?

Shill bidding should be the least of their concerns. They should focus more on the sellers who take money but never deliver product, or people who hack into accounts.
