chrisasst
how do you guys test wicks in jars? If a wick doesn't seems like it will work after 4 or 8 hours.. (1st and 2nd burn) and you have lots of wax left, Can I just pull the wick out and put a new one in with out it being fastened or should I just remelt the wax in my oven and repour it with a new wick? Cindy/WI
Sure can, I just pull mine out, level it down with heat gun and start my testing all over. HTH
chuck_35550
Just pour your jar up with no wick. I take a meat thermometer and stick a straight hole down the middle of the wax and then insert a wick and cut it off at the right length. The wick will wander around the jar as it burns down, but mainly you just want to test the basic elements: melt pool width and depth, throw, sooting, flame heighth and mushrooming. smokymountainraine
I do like Chuck except I use a bamboo skewer to poke my hole. I stick the wick in and if I need to change it I pull it out with a pair of pliers and stick the next one in. Works prefectly.
