Are cardboard air fresheners profitable?

Did some searches on this after customers requested car air fresheners. Average selling price seems to be $2.00. Blanks are 50 cents each. Given the amount of FO necessary, it does not seem like these have the same profit margin as wax products. I have not found out yet just how much FO is needed per blank. I have read as much as a 1/2 ounce. Any thoughts on this? Thank you for any input.

IMO they are not huge direct profit makers. They were however a few other things for us when we offered them:

1) Impulse buy. We had them at the counter so people would see them when paying. We sold ours for $3.00.

2) Brought new customers in our store looking specifically for these because the ones you buy in the stores around here are crap. :tiptoe:

3) Great freebie or give-away. Better than a tart because not all customers have tart burners, but most have cars :smiley2:

So, in a roundabout way they made us money and some new customers.

I agree fully .. they can be a good profit maker if marketed in a certain way

Thank you both for your suggestions. Can either of you give me an idea of how much FO I should use per blank? I would want good scent but don't want it dripping on the dash....:laugh2:

I just 'paint' my fragrance on with a paint brush. It doesnt take much at all. I do one side, let dry, do the other, then repeat the process, and package when dry. I measured it one day, and it came to about 1/10 oz of FO per blank. :)

I do it the same way here too. (so no, it doesn't use 1/2 ounce of FO per card)
