bunkie68
Is there a cosmetic grade sand that can be purchased? I'm working on a line of super-scrubby scrubs for the men, and thought sand might be a good scrubby thing. I got the idea from a foot scrub I used to have. I know I could use pumice, but thought I might experiment with different scrubbies. If someone has other ideas for scrubbies for a man-friendly scrub, please share - I'd love to hear them! CBE
Another idea for scrubbies is cornmeal. I make DH a shower gel (he prefers that over soaps now), I get the suspension shower gel from Soapers Supplies, add my FO, then I add cornmeal and jojoba beads. I sometimes add a bit of apricot kernel meal or pumice too. Whatever you do, don't use poppy seeds! lmao I was told by DH it gets caught up in certain... um... crevices... DH used to buy the Axe Snakepeel shower gel/scrub, but now he just uses what I make him. The main scrubbie ingredient in there is.... you guessed it... cornmeal. bunkie68
Cornmeal! That's an awesome idea! It doesn't have enough of a scent to change the fragrance of the scrub? It would sure be easy to get - just a quick trip to the local grocery store. Thanks, Donna! And I'm LMAO at the idea of poppy seeds getting stuck in certain undesirable locations. It doesn't affect the fragrance of your scrub/shower gel at all. Are you wanting to do a shower gel scrub, or a basic SCRUB? If you do a BASIC SCRUB... I would use some sugar along with that cornmeal, with the majority being SUGAR. A little bit of cornmeal goes a LONG WAY. It's very abrasive. You'll have to play with amounts. For a shower gel/scrub... you can just use the cornmeal in a suspension shower gel. My advice, add a little bit at a time. (about a teaspoon at a time). You can always add more, but if you add too much, you can't take out. About the poppy seeds... I jokingly told DH he'll be able to finally say his arse smells like flowers if we see a poppy pop outta there. lmao

I'll use some sugar, too, I just want something to up the scrub factor for the manly men who might realize they need some exfoliation. I'll play around to see what proportion works. And hey, I'd never thought of a suspension shower gel. Maybe I'll experiment with that, too, while I'm playing around with things!
Pam W
I don't think I'd want to be washing sand down my drain pipes
Luci
I've never used sand in a scrub I've made, but I have exfoliated with it. During low tide, I sometimes swim to this sandbar in the nearby inlet. While I'm chilling out before the swim back to my dock, I'll rub the sand all over my legs and arms. The feeling is fabulous. bunkie68
I don't think I'd want to be washing sand down my drain pipes It worked for the foot scrub I had (one I bought, not one I made), and it was just a thought.
