kalamazoo
I would really appreciate some help with making chunk votives. Is there an efficient and practical approach to making these? Do I just melt and scent a pound of wax to make chunks and then do the same for the overpour? I just know I am going to make too many chunks and not have enough overpour if I do not get some advice from the good people of this board first. Would you mind explaining your method of making chunk votives, to get me started in the right direction. Thanks so much.
beechcreekcandles
I suggest you check out the instructions on making chunk candles found in the Techniques area to the left of this forum. Lots of good tips there.
debscent
From your post I am guessing you don't need the instructions on the left that was pointed out, you are trying to find out how much wax you would need? How many votives are you making? kalamazoo
I suggest you check out the instructions on making chunk candles found in the Techniques area to the left of this forum. Lots of good tips there. Thanks I did that, I´ve been a member of this board since March 2006 so always try and research my questions first, but the instructions are not for votive chunk candles. I even did a search and found some info that was helpful, but not specific.

I would just like to try something new and have about 15 votive moulds to start with!! I have masses of 1oz scents and thought I could maybe use these to make some chunk votives. Maybe I could make the chunks using one scent and then a complimentary scent for the overpour?? If I melt 1lb of wax for the chunks, cut this up small, then I guess I do not need much for the overpour. Guess I will have to experiment. Just writing down my thoughts sometimes helps, so maybe I have answered my own question.:embarasse Appreciate any tips you may have though.:smiley2:
eugenia
Melt your lb of wax, make your chunks (scented) and pack your votive molds. Let's say you end of with 12. That would be 12 x 2 oz total finished weight, 24 ounces. You used 16 for the chunks, so you'd need 8 (I'd go 9 or 10 to be safe)for the overpour.Clear as mud?e
Demenshia
Don't know if this helps ya out or not but I make my chunks unscented. I'll make a pound at a time in whatever color. Then I can use them for several different candles and not worry about what the scent is. HTH.
debscent
Yep, what E said. I don't have to do a second pour on chunk votives but you may wish (as E mentioned) to have an ounce or two extra just in case. Hey, make it 3 ounces and make a clamshell tart or tarts out of the rest.My word of advice on the chunks is to make sure your overpour is as cool as it can be to avoid bleeding. You will have great fun I'm sure. I use alot of my 1 ounce samples to make my own "blends" in the chunks, but I tend to make bakery scents in my chunks. Let us know how it works for you! racolvin
When I made chunk votives I would use complimentary scents. Make a pound of chunks, say in Peach (both color and FO), then make up a pound of French Vanilla (no color) and use that as the overpour, created a Peaches & Cream chunk votive.Dunno if that helps you at all tho
