8-GRAN-ONES
I just made this today..It looked beautiful..Had no trouble soaping..Every thing went wonderful...But It has just split
Scent Cellar
It probably overheated in the mold.
8-GRAN-ONES
I bet that is just what happened..It was the Shortnening & Shea Sudsy Soap recipethat was shared on this board. It has goat milk..which I used part water instead oftotal GM...I did not cover at all..just set out on my counter top..I make 2 recipes of it...both I added ground oatmeal and HoneyOne recipe without any FO and the other with Flickers Flowerbomb..it was the one with the flowerbomb that split..they both were so nice and easy to make..to acceleration at all..If I had wanted colors I would have had plenty of time to do that..What would you suggest, is there anything that can be done...and what should I do for future batches to help this not to happen
Scent Cellar
I have given up using honey in my soap as it really heats up quickly. I cure my goat milk soap by sitting the mold on a wire rack and putting a fan on low just enough to keep the air moving and I keep the fan on them for 24 hours. Some people cure their goat milk soap by putting them in the refrig for 24 hours. Were you using a slab or log mold?
8-GRAN-ONES
a log mold...my other one turned out great...but I did not put as much in it..that and the FO could have been part of it to...I will try the fan next time...It sure does smell good though...I guess I will have to whole log to myself.. Scent Cellar
Yes, the log molds heat up faster and hold the heat longer. Best to do goat milk soap with honey in a slab. I bet you can just trim the tops of the bars to salvage them.
8-GRAN-ONES
You know another thing that I did that might be the problem..the one mold I didn't fill as full, because I wanted to try out one of the Milky way molds to see how it would work....so the mold wasn't as full. and it turned out just perfect..The other one was really stacked up there, really full.. well I guess I have learned a really good lesson... jes432
I soap room temp. using a log mold and I put my goats milk soaps in the fridge as soon as they're in the mold so they keep cool and don't gel. Usually this works.
AkainePSP
Anytime I make a soap in which I use GM I put it in the fridge after pouring.
DeJae
Split it in half, trim and clean them up and sell them as guest size soaps.
