pamlaura
an room freshener like in a cast iron kettle that sits on top of a wood burning stove or do you need to have special oil to do that? Help ANYONE?
flcandles
I dont see why you can't, I know it will seperate no matter what but if your just using it to boil with your water to bring some fragrance into the room then i guess it wouldn't matter if it seperated. But wait until some more experienced people chime in to be on the safe side.

DonC
You can buy fragrance oil at places that sell wood stoves. It is used in just that way and it works really good. You have to keep an eye on the pot that you use though. The oils will get it pretty nasty inside unless you keep it clean after the water evaporates out of it.Put about 1/4 ounce in a standard size kettle about 3/4 full. And WATCH IT......water will evaporate quickly with a hot fire......I've been using it for years...........HTH
southern.scents
I'm sure it will work but I bet water based fragrance would work even better. Try gelluminations.com, they have some. I have thought about buying some to use in mop water and see what it would do. It would probably make the house smell terrific but Im not sure what it might do to the floors. HeavenScentU
I have always done that but I also throw in potpourri and it works great.
Amish Ragdoll
I do it! Before I started making candles I used simmering potpourri or diluted fabric softener.
