BarbaraC
just got off the phone with the CPA and found out that in the state of New Jersey you have to charge sales tax on shipping. So lets say the total order is $10 and the shipping is $5 you need to charge sales tax on $15. What a pain in the a$$. All the state wants is money. Kymber
We charge sales tax on shipping in the State of South Dakota. But next door in Wyoming....their freight is not taxable. Where I worked we had sales tax licenses for both states and it was a Pita...LOL My business I only charge in state sales tax as I only have the SD tax license and our freight (shipping) is taxable. Beth-VT
We had a law change here the first of the year. Shipping is now taxable, on taxable sales. So if I ship an order out of state, it's not, but if I ship an order in state, it is. PITA.
VerticallyEnhanced
If you state considers shipping charges taxable then that usually goes for any delivery fees. If I charged $5 to drive a case of candles a mile away, that would also be a taxable delivery fee. Again, check with your state, but from what I have seen, if they tax "shipping" it applies to all delivery options.
