Today my daughter and I went to the big city shopping all day long. Well, we saw a Goodwill store and decided to pop in and take a look. I was pleasantly surprised to find all types of jars and glassware that were perfect for candle making! I found a whole basket of the 8 oz short fat squatty mason jars for $2.99 (perfect for wickless)! I also found a lovely clear dark pinkish marroon heavy glass bowl (kind of like anchor hocking) that is a perfect fit for the candle warmer for tarts for 99cents. Then I bought some more jars and glassware. They ahd all sorts of neat and pretty useful glass items that can be used for candles or warmers. I highly recommend checking out your local goodwill stores! From now on when I go to that city I will make a point to stop in there. You never know what neat treasures you'll find. I enjoy yard sales too, but where I live there aren't many because it's so rural.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but used glassware has far more cons than pros. Sure, the price is right, but it's not a product you'll be able to put on the shelf in quantity. Plus, ALL glass will eventually break when exposed to heating & cooling, not to mention being banged around from being handled. If you intend to sell that glassware, you have no idea who manufactured it or whether the product is of suitable quality. You would 1st need to test the container & then refill it for use/sale. This is a LOT of work for a one-time container & far less cost effective than buying in quantity from a reputable supplier. I've certainly picked up a few 'finds' from Goodwill, estate sales & left overs from friends, but only for personal use when the jar was too pretty to pass up. Although, our Goodwill used to sell 1st run items from stores like Macy's & I was lucky enough to pick up a dozen or two seasonal candle holders that I tested & sold w/ confidence. Overall, I wouldn't suggest making this a source for containers you sell.

First of all, I didn't say anything about selling the candles I make in these jars. Thay are for me, me, me! LOL I make more for myself at this point than I do for selling. :-) I would never sell a candle I made in a used jar. My sell candles are all in brand new purchased, never before used jars. But these that I just bought are fine for me to use around the house to play around with. Maybe I should have been more clear on that.

Pardon the pun, but I wasn't trying to ruffle your feathers! <grin>

I agree, you can find some nice containers at Goodwill. It always drives me crazy when I find something nice, but can't track it down to buy in quantity. Do they still sell 1st run items from the big name retailers? I may have to start watching for holiday containers.

LOL too funny! <giggle> :P

Well, I had not been in a Goodwill before yesterday that I can recall, but yes they had nice stuff and first run stuff too. This particular goodwill was in College Station. Not sure how long it's been there, but it was nice and looked fairly new. And yes I did see new items there too. I didn't really look at clothes, but the few that I did browse at were name brand and in perfect condition!

I loved the feather ruffle comment! LOL!! :grin2:
