camoflauge Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 My mother is making her own soap using cp method. i live 300 miles from her but would like to be able to add wonderful soaps to my line. But, i don't really want to be stuck with a whole batch of soap at a time, or pay her to ship them to me. she will be making soap for her own selling too-so she can do a whole batch of soap for her own sales. I would like to have her be able to make an unscented/uncolored batch of handmade soap, take it home and then melt and add my fragrance oil/color/etc. and pour into individual soap molds whenever i needed to. This would cut the cost of shipping the m&p bases to me, plus give her some extra income too.i've ordered m&p bases and don't have a problem with them, but i would like to be able to have specific ingredients added that m&p might not offer.Does anyone see a problem with "melting" cp soap, just like you would a m&p soap? it would be "cured" for the appropriate 3-4 weeks before i would even melt it. and if i were to do this, how would i melt it? i used the microwave on low heat for the m&p and it worked just fine. Thanks for any advice.:highfive: Quote
jzastoupil Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 cp doesnt "melt" like mp - you would basically be doing a rebatch, which isnt bad, just usually not as smooth Quote
camoflauge Posted July 8, 2007 Author Posted July 8, 2007 what does m&p have that makes it different then? i guess i don't really understand what makes m&p different.... is there something added to it that makes it more "smooth" when you warm it up. and is there a recipe of how i could have her make m&p type soap for me?sorry for all the questions. the soaping world is new to me. i'd love to be able to do cp soap-but, i have 2 boys, a cat, a dog, and a daycare-so, that is NOT an option for me right now.Thanks. Pepperi Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 To rebatch takes way longer than mp. I do it in the oven and it takes about 90 minutes. I can add certain things to it that I can't with mp. I don't have to worry about packaging rebatch with saran wrap like you do with mp. Quote
camoflauge Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 all good info to know. i can see what is missing. curiousity got the best of me, so i tried to warm up a bar of soap i had-didn't smell good anyways-it's way too dry, like i was cooking it. it's just a "bumpy" soap not smooth... like was posted.sooo, does anyone know how to make a melt & pour base? I see what is in them, but don't know amounts. or is this a prized secret between companies? because if i can have my mom make the base for me, i would. Thanks!!! Quote
RobinInOR Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I don't know anyone that's made true melt and pour. Most ingredient lists don't seem to be complete - just adding glycerine and sorbitol and "soybean proteins" isn't different enough to give you a smoothly remeltable base. You can make transparent soap, but it's still closer to CP than MP - it's not smoothly remeltable either.
