kw2703 Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Hello everyone,I am just beginning to make candles and have purchased all of my supplies. I am confused about when to add fragrance and dye. Some sites I read say to wait until it's at about 175 degrees and pour at 150. The woman who taught me added her fragrance and dye as she was about to pour. Does anyone have any advice about this? I am using palm wax if that helps at all. I have purchased the Presto pot...do I still need a thermometer or do I just wait until the wax is all melted in the pot? Thank you for any help! Quote
Ring of Fire Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Wherever you bought your palm wax should tell you a suggested pour temp. I add my dye, fragrance mixed well, then pour. Also use a thermometer because the dial on the presto is not at all accurate. Quote
Scented Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Used a thermometer all the time. Only thing I do different from ROF is add the FO before dye to make sure it incorporates. Quote
grama Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 The palm wax I use I heat to 185-190 then add scent and dye then pour. My palm comes from candlescience. Always use a thermometer. Quote
Stella1952 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Welcome! You will learn a lot by searching the forums for "palm wax" - there is LOADS of info in the threads. You need proper equipment (ie. a thermometer) because even a few degrees this way or that can have a profound effect on the outcome of your candle. Doing a little "homework" here (and from the supplier from whom you purchased your wax) can help you understand the wax you are using and its peculiarities. Quote
