perkyaim99 Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I have never purchased from saveonscents, however I'm intrigued by their concentrations. Has anyone purchased these higher concentrations. Is it worth it? Do the higher concentrations give you a stronger throw and longer lasting scent??This is what I am referring to: SOS, regular concentrateUltra Concentrate, 50% Stronger Extreme Concentrate, 125-250% Stronger I’m going to get a few sample scents in all 3 grades. Will post results if anyone else is interested.TIAAmy Quote
Fern Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I've purchased both the SOS and Ultra Concentrates, but never the Extreme. I think the Ultra works great for candles, the SOS for B&B and sometimes for candles and tarts, depending on the scent...it's really hit or miss with the SOS, but I just can't see spending the kind of money they want for the Extreme when the others work so well. I'd still be curious though to see if it was worth the money or not, so keep us posted. Quote

Kelly Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I still haven't gotten around to testing in candles, but the SOS grade is doing well in B&B products. I ordered a "ultra" and a "SOS" grades to compare side by side and the ultra is a little stronger but I still don't know if it's enough (based on the scent I got) that it's worth the price difference. But you might need to place a small order and see how it goes in your specific applications. Quote
firegirl Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Okay.. I have purchased all grades. I can only speak for the ones that I have purchased for candles. You will be very pleased if you stick with the Ultra Concentrate. The only fragrance I would encourage you to buy in Extreme would be fragrances like Philosophy Amazing Grace and Pure Grace.. both are normally light. Ultra Concentrate is fabulous for candles and you can use less than a ounce per pound in soap. HTH Quote
Judy, USMC Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 I'd love to know the test results! Never used them - too afraid of their "rating" system and the extra $$$$ it may take to get a good throw. Quote
perkyaim99 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 I purchased Cookies & Cream Type all 3 strengths to compare to RA’s value. Peach Supreme all grades to compare to RA’s value juicy peach. French Vanilla Supreme in all 3 to compare to Vanilla Velvet from BCN/S. White Musk Type Ultra to compare to RA’s value. Princess type Ultra. $80 including shipping for 2 oz sizes. I’d imagine it would take a week to ship them. Another week to cure. I am using 70/30 paraffin soy blend.Amy Quote
perkyaim99 Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 Today I poured my samples of SOS vs RA standard, in 70/30 parra/soy. I only ordered 3 scents from SOS and got them in all 3 grades, SOS, ultra and extreme. OOBSOS grade faint scent & plastic-y smellUltra smelled much betterExtreme smelled great came in glass bottle, smelled stronger than RA standard OOB Cold throw so farSOS, not impressedUltra, okExtreme, same as RA standardSo far I am not impressed at all with SOS. Cold throw in extreme grades aren’t any stronger than RA standard grade, with RA having a stronger cold throw! We’ll see how hot throw does. I poured my excess into tart molds and plan on testing those while I wait for the candles to cure. I’m going to let them cure for a week. Will post hot throw results. Quote
Stella1952 Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I have bought several of SOS's Ultra. Several throw very well for us - their Vanilla Royal is a favorite of our customers! It figures - I am not a big vanilla fan...:rolleyes2 But I will have to admit, it is the best one we have tried thus far, all things considered. Some of their scents did not throw well in the first test I did; however there were some technical difficulties with that particular batch, so I have reserved my opinion until I do another test. I haven't tried most of them in palm yet (except for the vanilla royal).I did not order any of the regular SOS nor the Extreme - guess I am just a middle-of-the-road person! Quote
perkyaim99 Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 I also poured the scents I'm using to compare to SOS (RA and BCS), same container, wick, wax, temp, humidity, pressure etc. I made them all on the same day to make sure ALL conditions were the same. I'm not only checking the difference between SOS grades but to also see how SOS scents compare to similiar scents from other suppliers. I wanted to know if the extra $ was worth it and just to see how it compares. Amy Quote
coloresse Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 I don't see the hot throw results posted? Did I miss it somehow? TIA Quote
Pam W Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 I've purchased from them only once and got the SOS grade and was very disappointed in the cold and hot throw in paraffin pillars. Probably won't buy from them again cause I find it a PITA having to decide which grade for which application...I prefer to keep it simple. The SOS grade did ok in lotion and body mists. Quote
Louise Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I've been buying from SOS for a few years now and actually, they're about the only place I buy from. I purchase the Extreme version of most all my scents, that way I'm all set to go whether it be for soap, B&B, or candles. Pam, the SOS strength is about worthless in alot of them. You should try them again and purchase either the Ultra or the Extreme. Quote
