cellydaniel Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Hi everyone,I am wondering if it's possible to add distilled water to my body butter without adding preservative in it. I saw a B & B product that has distilled water in the ingredients but the maker claims that there is no preservative in the product. Is that possible?Thank you so much for the adviceCelly Quote
singleyellowrose Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Anything is possible. Would I do it >>>>>NO! As soon as you add water it makes your product an EXCELLENT breeding ground for germs.ETA: Even with all oils I still add a preservative. Quote
madcitysue Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Once you start adding water to anything, it needs a preservation system. Now, there are some very complex self-preserving systems I have heard of, but they are well-beyond the technical capabilities of the home crafter. (In terms of analysis and testing). Oh, and I just thought of something else. If your body butter is an oil-only creation, you will also need an emulsifier in addition to the preservative, FYI.~Sue Quote
Crafty1 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 i agree with everyone, once water is entered into the formula, you must preserve. Quote
