tammyc
I usually put my metal molds into the oven and set the temp to about 170 degrees. When the preheat bell goes off I take them out and wipe them down. Well, I decided to put them in for a few min. while preheating the oven for dinner. Of course my 4 year old distracted me. The next thing I know the preheat bell went off. Thats right, I heated my molds to 425 degrees. When I pulled them out the solder was melted right off them. My husband tried to resolder them for me, but the solder just keeps balling up. Is there a special type of solder I need to use to repair these. They are farely new molds, I hate to scrap them. PamR
Oh man, how awful! I have repaired leaking metal molds using JB Weld. Is it the bottom that came off? You might try the JBweld on one of them & see if it helps. PamR
moonrose64
I had that happen too.My son fixed mine with "SpeedyBond" It is an epoxy putty for metal. It has held up really good. You just have to make sure your mold is really clean before doing it. tammyc
Yes, it is the bottom that came off. It was both of my hurricane molds. Hope I don't get any orders for these until I get them fixed. Thanks, I will look for some of that.
Stella1952
You can reosolder these using flux and standard stained glass (60/40) solder. If you don't use flux, the solder won't stick. HTH:D
