dirtybirdsoaps
I've done a search and couldn't find anything. I need to find a recipe for a vegan friendly shaving bar. All the recipes I have found require silk. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!!!!
eugenia
Most shaving bars are high in castor and have clay for slip. Should be easy to formulate a vegan recipe.
CareBear
silk isn't really necessary - it helps a bit with the lather but you can get good lather without it. It's the clay that gives it the slip.
dirtybirdsoaps
I have Kaolin Clay.....haven't even tried it yet LOL would that be an OK clay to use or is there a specific kind? And how much do you recommend. I apologize for the questions, and appreciate any help
eugenia
1 TBS of clay pp of oils, added to the oils. Keep in mind that the clay absorbs water when calculating your water discount. The clay you have will be fine.
Angel91805
Does it have to be CP/HP or can it be M&P??SFIC has a shaving M&P soap base...here's the ingredients:Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Castor Oil, Safflower Oil, Glycerine (kosher, of vegetable origin), Purified Water, Sodium Hydroxide (saponifying agent), Sorbitol (moisturizer), Sorbitan Oleate (emulsifier), Soybean Protein (conditioner) and Wheat Protein (to increase lather).I didn't go look up Sorbitol...but it looks vegan to me.Donna
dirtybirdsoaps
Thanks Donna, I might have to look into that. I actually JUST made my first batch of m & p the other night, usually its just been CP but I'm trying to expand a little.
Meridith
You can also use bentonite clay as this clay will also provide you the slip that you want in a shaving soap.
