school marm
This is my first post and very excited to be here! I began making candles about 6 months ago and I am completely addicted! I am still in the "testing stage" and probably will be for several months....... I have a newbie question- I am currently testing with EcoSoya AD & R9798. I am using Heinz CD & Paper Core wicks. The wicking is QUITE CHALLENGING!!! I just can't get the proper burn! The jars I am using are the studio jars...wider at the bottom. Should I be measuring the diameter of the bottom or the top? The top of the jars are roughly 1/2 inch smaller in diameter than the bottom. Sorry to post such a silly question!!! Thank you for all of your help!sharon
pacificflames
Hi Sharon,I'm pretty new too but here's my 5 cents..., I use bulb jars which are also wider towards the bottom and I measure the widest spot for wicking. I also use the CD wicks but I use the GW 415, that combination works pretty well for me! Good luck!
geekrunner
More noobs! Welcome and don't be afraid of asking seemingly dumb questions. We are by nature a helpful bunch. We only flame those who want to be spoon-fed everything we know It's been close to a year since that happened.geek

Kelly
Yeah, I would try wick for the widest part of the jar as well, but of course test it out. You may find that you can wick down a size, due to the fact that the lower you get in your jar during the burn the hotter the glass seems to be.Good luck and happy testing!
