Lady_Sudz
Ok..One more question for the day..Hopefully it is not to silly..I Kinda get superfatting..But If you don't superfat what happens?? Does it make soap Lye heavy???Like saya 100% lard Bar superfat 0-1%would that make it lye heavy? Thanks so much!
Crafty1_AJ
If you superfat at 0%, yes, you could possibly come up with a slightly lye-heavy soap. Fats and oils actually don't have one single exact SAP value; they have a *range* of SAP values. Oils & butters can vary from crop to crop, batch to batch. When you see various SAP values for fats listed, an average figure is generally used.
krazeforsoap
A.J. is very correct! :smiley2:
RobinInOR
A 100% lard bar at 0-1% superfat would make a great laundry stain stick, but be extremely harsh. That's what many customers think of when they see you use lye, grandma's lye soap for laundry that didn't feel good on your skin.
Lady_Sudz
Thank you all so much! That is a huge help...So If I wanted to make it fit for skin i would just do a 6 superfat like my reg bars right?! I have never used lard soo I wanted to do a 100% and see how it feels! Thanks again!! You all are so Much help!!
Meridith
I usually do a 5% superfat unless I am soaping with raw GM, then I do a 4% superfat since the milk has lots of good fats in it. BTW - lard in a soap recipe can make a wonderfully conditioning bar. My favorite soap recipe has lard in it.
