Lost A Font Site

Recommended Posts

Ugh...I'm about to pull my hair out. I'm having a lousy ass weekend. It's all because of this #$%^&* computer. It just isn't running right. I hate it. So I restored it today...THREE times. It's still not right. Anyway, I did back up everything on a CD. Gawd, I've been reinstalling programs all day. I saved all of my fonts (I'm a font-ho) in a folder in my favorites and burned them along with everything else. But when I open the folder it only shows the fonts that are already installed on the computer after the restores. So now I've lost ALL of my fonts I had saved. Some of them I bought. I'm so mad. A couple of them I tweeked myself and they are gone too. Damn.

Oh yeah, the reason I'm here is someone posted a site with fonts and of course with the restore I can't find the site I had saved. Someone asked about font sites and someone else posted one that I think was a scrapbooking site. I bought a couple of fonts from there and now they are gone. They were only a couple of dollars though. It was only a couple of months ago at the most. Anyone have an idea of what I'm talking about? I did a search but all I know to put in is "fonts." I'm so frustrated. Even if I don't find it, I feel better just venting!

I'm still having computer issues.

Thanks ladies! It isn't any of those. It's not a free site but the fonts are only 2-5 dollars. It is a font where the first letter is sort of quilted and the lower case letters are stitched. I found a site that sort of looks like it at "Lettering Delights." I'll just have to go through them to see If I can find it. Thanks again.

Just offering a suggestion. Get a flash drive to save all your important files like your fonts, documents, graphics, etc. It will save you a lot of headaches.

LOL.

Chauna

Take it from some who always has to reformat her computer.

Good Idea. I thought I was all set when I burned everything onto a CD. Everything worked except for the fonts. :cry2: I just got the "stitched" one back. $2.99 wasn't too painful. I have a font maker program and I had some stuff that I worked a long time on. Poof...it's all gone.

Just a technical suggestion for you here...

When you go to back up your fonts, NEVER *EVER* do it through Explorer ("My Computer"). The files will NOT be copied correctly. You have to do it from the commandline. If you don't know how, it goes a little like this...

Start -> Run -> enter "cmd"

You'll be at the console window

Do c:

Do cd \windows\fonts

Do copy *.* \whateverfolderyouwantitin

and it will copy all of the files to the folder you specifed. "whateverfolderyouwantitin" is a folder you've previously created. Make SURE you know how to navigate your hard drive though, don't just create the folder on your desktop and expect this to work!

If you really crazy, you can do this for the last step:

copy *.* \

and it will copy all of the files to the root of your drive. You can then move them from there to wherever you want using Explorer. Fonts generally have the extention TTF and FON and their icon is unmistakeable...it'll either have a huge TT or a huge O for TTF fonts, and a large A for FON fonts.

From my understanding, XP doesn't even ALLOW you to copy fonts directly from the folder...you can copy the Fonts folder somewhere else, but this doesn't always work. Use the method I've outlined above and if done right, you will always be able to back up your fonts.

I made a folder on my desk top named it 'my fonts' and put all of my new fonts in it. Then I burned that one folder onto a CD. I took that CD and tried it on my son's computer and they were all on the new CD. Of course, I'm still trying to find most of the lost fonts. I cause more problems for myself with this computer. It's a real love/hate relationship. Mostly hate. Plus I'm not very computer savvy to begin with...but I do try. Ashlie K stayed up most of last night holding my hand. THANK YOU ASHLIE! Tomorrow I'm going to get a jump drive.

Edited to say I probably mean 'flash drive'. Told ya I don't know nothing about nothing!

4,000...dayum! I found the main one I really needed so now I'm playing with it in a font maker program to change the 'r' and 'e' the way I want it. Also trying to remake a logo sort of thingy in the font maker. Thanks so much for the offer! If I can't find any that I think I have to have I'll let ya know. :highfive: It's kinda neat going through all of the font sites again to see what I might be missing.
