gmp Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I am testing 4630 in a metro jar, 3inches wide, 6% fo. I tried the zinc 51 for 2 three hour test burns and got a tunnel even tho I had a nice steady flame. I tried the zinc 60 for 2 three hour test burns and got lots of shooting flare-ups accompanied by black smoke. There was no draft.THe bitter creek rep said it's okay to try the zinc 51 again for a four hour burn to get a full melt pool, even tho it's a 3 inch wide jar. does this sound right? Or do I really need to stick with the one hour per inch rule? TIA... Quote
Grumpy Girl Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 These jars are the work of the devil. I swear.I'd try 4 hours and see where it gets you. A 51z was the only wick I could get to work with these jars, and even then once it hit the halfway mark, all rules of nice burning/no soot were thrown out the window. Quote
cindym Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 4630 is definely a sooter. When I used it I double wicked with the smallest 44 zinc wick availabale. I had not soot, but if the wick was over trimmed it would drown and I worried about people burning it on a unflat surface. I never had any complaints but I was unhappy with the wax and switched back to 4786 Quote
