kamburgy Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Just received my first supply of Comfort Blend IGI-4627 - purchased even though many warnings of being messy to work with. I'm searching for those who LOVE working with this wax and can offer many, many, many (did I say many ) tips & tricks developed over time which make working with this wax a happy experience. Ideas for Cutting, Storage, Clean-up, etc... Why re-invent the wheel. Being real simple in usage...round, 8oz. canning jars using HTP-83 wicks. Quote
Grumpy Girl Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 There are tons of threads on this wax. If you do a search for 4627 you will probably find everything you ever wanted to know and then some. Quote
IndyGirl Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I love my wax! Yes, it's messy but, great for your hands! It's easier to deal with when it's cold.........a mess when it's hot outside. I like to cut it with a long blade knife (sort of a sword!) and I just wrap it back up in the plastic as I go. To open, I slice the bag in one linefor the top all the way across the bottom and back up the other side so when you peel it away you can keep it on the plastic to cut. Be sure to scrape your plastic with a paint scraper to get all of the wax before you throw it away! I only use zinc wicks in it because they stand up with no need for those wick holder things. ( This wax is so soft that you can straighten the wicks easily!) After my first pour, I just pull the wick up so that they are not laying against the glass, then after they are cool to touch I pull the wicks straight and trim them to the desired length. Then....I top then off, adjust wicks to center right away, cool, clean the jar edge and, cap! Easy! Also, I never heat my glass for this wax. I have tried this but, it doesn't make a difference in glass adhesion. If it's cold, they're going to pull away in places no matter what you do. As for curing, I never wait. I burn them as soon as they are completely cool and the throw is awesome. One more thought, this wax is perfect without adding any type of additive. UV protection is all that could be used because they will fade in sunlight easily. Hope this helps! Quote
kamburgy Posted January 10, 2007 Author Posted January 10, 2007 Thanks!! IndyGirl. I do appreciate all the detail you've provided. Extremely helpful. In addition to researching close to 20 hours this past week for suppliers, supplies, wax types, wick types, containers, instructions, equipment, etc... I spent close to 3 hours this evening reading all the "threads" on this message board specific to wax 4627 and no one seems to provide any specifics on how to deal with the "difficulties"...hence my post request for tips & tricks. I'm looking for a serious long-term hobby and since candle-making isn't cheap, wanted to make my experience as pleasant as possible so I can make many candles for a long, long time. You were great - Thanks!! Grumpy Girl Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 In the grand scheme of things, 20 hours is nothing. Personally, I'll tell you to save yourself the trouble and get a different wax. I can't stand the stuff. Quote
IndyGirl Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Well..........then...........whatever! I think it's a great wax, with great throw hot and cold and.......makes a beautiful candle! Quote

LOL!"My kitchen was covered in the other day and it tok me an hour to just get started to clean lol I am in the beginnigh stages with this wax with the test burns no scent yet but I really like it even with the mess and not being able to get the wick downWe leave it in the bag and pull it down then cut what we need (blocks) then pull the wrapper back up. Less for us to touch then. Best of Luck to you Quote
Connie Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Got to say, I love this wax too. Yep its messy but the throw both hot and cold really makes me stay with it. I also cut the corners so the bag comes straight down. Only pain with that is the wrinkles, but i scoop that out with my fingers. I use a electric knife to cut mine. Wicking is a whole nother story.
