gmp Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 After my metro jars set up, I zap the tops flat with a heat gun. However, afterward, a residue waxy film remains around the glass which I call a Halo Effect. It is a very, very small amount of wax, but looks sloppy.I tried re-zapping the Halo with the heat gun at close range, and saw some improvement, but not enough to make it clean or to even make a significant difference. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will add a picture of it if need be.Can anyone offer advice? As always, thank you.... cjackson35 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I am new to making candles, but, i have had the same thing happen. I take a paper towel and wipe around the inside where the ring is at, after using the heat gun, and it takes care of the ring. Quote
gmp Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 Here's the photo. Sorry it's not the greatest shot, but you can see the halo on the left side especially. Thanks for the tip about the paper towels. I will have to give that a try. Quote
Patience Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Try using the heat gun for less time, and maybe hold it further away from the surface. Quote
Aspencreek Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Are you not getting a flat top when you do your first pour? What are you using. I have a single pour contaier wax and I never have to reheat the tops. Quote
Candle Makin Momma Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 THat was happening to me too. So now I hold the heat gun higher in the air, so it isn't blowing the wax up on the sides of the jar Quote
gmp Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 These are all great things for me to think about. Thank you so much!Aspen, I am using J223, and technically it is a one pour, but my tops are never perfectly flat. There is a bit of sloping, so I remelt the top with my heat gun to get a perfectly flat top as a finishing touch. What wax do you use? I have tried 4786, 4630, and now the J223, and am willing to continue to try other waxes. Thanks again! Quote
jillgunter Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Alot has to do with the temp you pour at. I have used the 4630, I got smooth flat tops with pour temp of 160. I also now use the 6006, and get nice tops at 170. Maybe play around with your pour temp. Quote
