But I do have some questions. I am making mp soaps and think I would like to make either hp or cp. I have not had any luck with the mp lathering. I want a soap that laters really good. I also have had a request for a massage oil or melt bar can someone tell me how and what % to use on any of this. I have made candles for about 5 years now and love it. My boyfriend says I spend more time with this that I do him.. Any help would be much appreciated. Also where and can I joint the swap and secret buddy groups that you all have? This is truely a great website I hope I can meet a lot of great people.God Bless AllJamie MSouthern Louisianna Quote
Crafty1_AJ Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 You can start your soapmaking research here. Lots of good tips and tricks! But for a great general overview of soapmaking, lots of folks start with millersoap.com website.I learned mostly from reading books on the subject.hth Quote
blazerina Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 There are a few different things you can do to improve lather in M&P. Maybe if you tell us what you have tried, we can direct you one way or the other. Quote
CareBear Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 If you overheat the soap during the melting it can lose lather. Plus some brands don't lather very well to begin with. For massage oils or bars, search on "massage" on this site - there is lots of information and probably some recipes to get you started - tweak to suit your needs. Quote
funnygirl Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 With the little bit of M&P I did I figured out real quick that olive oil M&P isnt very bubby at all. The Ultra White I tried was pretty bubbly. I also found out that the longer it sat, the better lather I got. I too just started soap making. The miller site mentioned is great for study. I wanted to do CP and there is a wealth of info there. I also ordered a CP DVD from Bramble Berry. Havent watched it yet, but I will let you know how informative it is after I do. I wanted to get something where I could "see" instead of only reading, so that sounded good to me I would start with the miller site and read until you cant stand it anymore. Then I would find a basic type recipe and give it a shot. While your reading, you could start playing with the lye calculator and getting familuar with that. I just started plugging in recipes I found and getting a feel for it. Then I started plugging in new recipes that I made up and getting a feel for what oils/butters contribute what properties to a soap. It's very fun and addicting. Just study and act on that studyinhg by doing. Good luck and have fun! Quote
