Made this hurricane with 5055. This is the first time I have used this wax. I added micro to it and that is all. As you can see it mottled on the inside. Donita or anyone else know why it did this. I even checked to make sure it said 5055 on the package of wax. Thanks

Not donita and dont know crap about hurricanes but... :D

Must just be the oil content of the wax.

I use the 4045 same as yours just lower mp and get some mottle from it every now and then depending on how slow it cools. The slower the more it mottles.

A few pellets of vybar will clear up your problem.

I'm not Donita and certainly not an expert but I had this problem with my canes a couple weeks ago, it was frustrating to say the least because I had already made 2 that day from the same wax, actually same pot of wax. It finally dawned on me what it was. I had used the same water bath without cooling the water back down from the other 2 canes. Might try lowering the temp on your water bath enough to stop the mottle. hth

Paulette.....that looks mottled to me and I have no idea why that would happen. I just emailed Bill Binder of Candlewic and sent him this thread. Maybe he can shed some light on this problem. Donita

This is what Bill just sent me......so I am thinking the cooling. Are you using 1/2 oz micro 180 per pound. Check your waterbath temp.......Donita

opps Paulette...this is what I forgot to paste.

Donita

Unfortunately, I am not a registered user of Candletech and unable to post. We have found over the years that the 5055 may mottle especially if the cooling process is slower. I think a little vybar less then 1/4% will clear that up or even a 1-2% micro.

I guess I was having a senior moment....another one....:P

How do you get your hurricane so perfect?? I tried my hand at some over the holidays and I cant get the picture to come out smooth at all. It either has too much wax on the outside and you cant see it or too little and it doesnt stick or when I pull it out of the mold the wax stays in the mold so the picture comes out with some wax on it with a chunk missing!! Talent beyond me!! I think yours looks great!!

ditto - same happened to me. too much wax, not enough wax or one side of the photo stuck perfectly and the other pulled away...

Thanks for the compliment. You can't see the picture it self very well but it did turn out great. I just put it to the side and use and ice cube to adhere it to the side. Are you letting the air bubbles work their way off when you first put the picture in the wax. I put the picture in the wax and you will see the bubbles come off the picture. Wait till they are gone before putting up against the mold. Hth.
