Reese
I had a customer ask me what would cause a gel candle to explode. Since I have never worked with gel I was not sure how to answer the question. If any of you gel users could give me some type of idea as to why this would happen I would appericate it.Thanks,Reese
Trae
She's probably referring to the old rumor about gel candles exploding. Check out this site and it might help you to explain things a little betterhttp://www.gelcandlemaking.com/testimonials.htmlHTH!Trae
Vicky_CO
I swear that rumor is never going to die.The candle is not really exploding what is happening is the glassware for some reason got too hot and broke, it will sound like a gun going off in your house.Things that can cause a gel candle to "explode" polar FOs, to low a FP on the FOs, To much FO and oil pockets are created when the flame get to the me you get a little bon fire which will cause the glass to gel to hot and break. Items that are not fire resistant in the candle they catch fire. Not crimping above the sand. Sand can become flammable. It will absorb the FO out of your gel wax and than becomes flammable. Improper wicking. That is just a few of the reason why it would happen.

jazzbo848
not vicky, but you can either crimp the wick about an inch or more above the sand or double glass the candle.cheryl
Vicky_CO
Jazz is right you need to crimp your wick above the sand. I use jewelry crimps. If you look here http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2957 there are some instruction on crimping as soon as my last market is over I am going to do a small article on crimping with pictures.
