TwinMom
Just a quick question: when you are making a hurricane candle do you measure the wax out like you would if you were pouring a regular pillar into that mold? You dump half of the wax out when you are forming your cane so I am not quite sure how to do it, thanks:undecided
Brat
I would measure it like you're pouring a solid pillar. That way, you know the amount of wax you will use will be tall enough. Half of it won't be!
snow
when I do my canes I usually start with 3# of wax, that way I know for sure I will have enough to cover whatever photo I am putting on it. I've done it before with less and ended up with not enough, so with 3# I'm sure I have it, thats for a 5X6 mold. HTH

Jcandleattic
I do as many canes at a time as I can, so I usually just fill my presto up and melt as much as it will hold. That way I know I'll have enough to do at least 2 at a time before dumping the middle wax out of the cane once the sides have formed... After the dump, I have enough to do 2 more before having to add more wax to the presto.. I just keep adding as needed and very rarely ever weigh/measure my cane wax. HTH and I hope it makes sense. tammyc
My finished canes weigh about 1.5 lbs. I start by melting 4 lbs of wax. I pour my center back into the pouring pot. The next time I make a cane I know I only have to add 1.5 lbs, the amount of the finished cane. 4 lbs is actually a little more than I need, but I like to be sure I have enough. I tried using 3 lbs once and it just barely came to the top of the picture; I had to remelt and add more wax.
