Henryk
I've been doing some research, but haven't really come up with too much to go on - just some stuff from the old board, nothing up-to-date really. What I'd really like to do is find a good performing wick for paraffin pillars (3" mostly) that I can use BUT are from normally available wick assemblies sold by suppliers. I would like to get away from all the priming and tabbing that I do with braids. (I use wick pins and would like to continue to do so).I, like most people that I can see, are using braids in pillars. Before I went to them I was using LXs - centered melt pool - wick didn't bend, but the flames were TOO high IMO. A few mentioned RRDs - do these burn centered in paraffin pillars (the WU site says they do, but I'd rather hear it from you all). Most of my experience is in soy containers and HTPs, CDs, and RRDs seemed to lean to one side - which I don't think would be too good in pillars if they did likewise in paraffin. So, if anyone uses the assemblies for convenience sake, what are the acceptable types to try, and what ones should one definitely stay away from? (I've got sample packs of pretty much everything from WEDO, A&P, and Heinz).TIA for any help.
Scented
Well my choices are the LX, Flats and Square braids. You can get the SB assembled at Candlewic I think. Yeah priming wick and crimping tabs gets boring lol.
Henryk
Thanks - its just that I notice that many times it seems on subsequent burns I have to trim the LXs in paraffin again shortly after I trim them when lighting. After that they are ok for a long while. (And, I don't want to trim them too short, because, as we know, there is no coming back from that really). Scented
Yeah I get some of that too and thus will be returning to testing on the squares ... I just want the squares already primed for me because I'm getting tired of doing it.Flats work ok, but I don't really get the full circle melt pool, just the slightly off-centered oval, but flats are similar to other wicks (can't think of which) and they burn well for me. Again, I would rather see them bundled and primed by someone other than me.
grama
As I said in earlier post - I had always used the zinc wicks in my pillars because they don't bend. Now I am trying the hemp and so far I really like them. hth
