JB's mom
Hi all! I've been lurking here for months and thought I should just go ahead and introduce myself. I've done canldes for several years and in the last few months have been itching to try something different. I think soap is it! I've tried a couple different kinds of MP but would really like to try HP or CP. I'm just so darn intimidated by it all! It seems really complicated to get started. I've read tons of posts, and still do not feel comfortable actually trying yet. So I'm just gonna keep on reading till I feel ready. I cannot believe some of the soap you guys are making. Absolutely gorgeous! Maybe one of these days I'll be doing that!Glinda

Just use the proper precautions for working with the lye and you'll be okay. After the first batch you will be hooked and then we will be looking at all your creations! eugenia
Welcome! If you want to make things easier on yourself, try a boring unscented, uncolored batch. When that works well, you will have one batch under your belt. You will feel more confident and be ready for the trickier stuff. My favorite recipe for beginners is a very simple castile. 90% olive oil, 10% castor oil. You get get the castor from a drug store. This makes a very gentle, mild soap. This soap is one of my standards.e
