roxi4112000
I had left quite alot of wax heating on low overnight on accident, and decided to use the wax as testing wax, I used it on mulled cider in pure soy and htp 104 was bearly enough to not tunnel it tunneled alot. I saw a thread that referred to some wax that looked like brains, and this is what it looked like, I wonder if this is what caused the brain look and the tunneling? just wondered if anyone came across this before? geekrunner
Not being a chemist (but I play one on TV :rolleyes2 ) my experience with scorching soy wax is that it is oxidized, which will discolor it and make it smell a little burned. It can affect how it smells and looks when you add the FO and color. As far as tunneling, that is more of a functin of the wick and jar size. Need some info: wax brand, jar size/type, and FO load. Then we can better tell why it is tunneling.geek
roxi4112000
1.5 oz of mulled cider in a half pint mason, 3 in across, htp 104, so far all have worked with htp 104, but I dont have anything bigger to test, Ill guess Ill get some 105's and test both just to make sure, thanks for the help:D
dandelion garden
I'd start over with some new unscorched wax and do a small batch of the same wick/FO combo and see how it goes. Especially since you mention that this wick has worked well for you in this same container in the past.If it doesn't test out & you still want to try the 105's toss me a PM- I have some extras that I probably won't use & would be happy to send you a few. Meridith
Do you keep a thermometer in your wax to keep track of the temp? If you left your wax on really low and the temp was not over 180-200 it should not have scorched. As far as the brainy look goes, soy will sometimes do that and you might have poured too hot. Or it could have been caused by any additives you may have used like vybar. With a jar with a 3" opening, a 104 or 105 is more than likely too small. I'd try a 1212. That is what I use for my 3" widemouth mason jars. Tunneling is a good indication you need to wick up and not that you scorched your wax. Your FO can also be heavy and add to that problem.
