MissyK
I'm using ECO wicks and none of my candles burn even close to the bottom. The wick dies out or falls out and I have about an inch of wax left at the bottom. Of course, I don't mind it because I just put the leftovers in a warmer but my family and friends have commented on it. Anyone having the same problem? Is it the ECO wicks or do most wicks do this? mizbizzyb
How high is your wick tab....for a safe candle you want it to go out about 1/4-1/2 inch from the bottom anyways.
Guest amynleebishop
What does it look like at the bottom of your jar? Is the color darker? What I am getting at is the scent could be clogging up the wick if it is gathered at the bottom and is not stirred properly b4 pouring. Believe it or not the scent weighs more by volume than the wax so it does tend to sink to the bottom if it is not mixed well enough. If you are getting it to burn evenly all the way to just an inch, it is not the wick otherwise you would have the problem all the way thru the burn of the candle. Meridith
My guess is that you are using a wick with a higher neck. If you read all candle warnings, they state to not burn the last 1/2" of wax anyway. This is for safety sake. I wick all my jars to leave some wax on the bottom so that the customer can not burn all the way down. I've got a nice burn mark on my kitchen table from a candle I purchased that burned all the way down causing the jar to get hot and shatter. The remaining melted wax spilled all over the table, caught fire and burned my table. This has happened to me more than once which was enough to convince me when I started to make candles to use a tab with higher neck.
Tizimarezie
Meridith,What size neck? 6mm? 10mm? I ordered 10mm but am wondering if the 6mm would have been fine. What size do you use?
Meridith
I use 6mm.
MissyK
I use the ECO pretabbed wicks. I don't even know what size neck it is. The neck is a little high I guess but all of the pretabbed wicks I bought are the same. I burned one today and it was just fine. It left about 1/2 inch at the bottom, which to me seems normal! I think my friends are just comparing them to Circle E candles which do burn all the way to the bottom. Well, I surely don't want people to have accidents so I guess I would rather it this way! Thanks everyone!Missy

I use 6mm, and usually end up with 1/4-1/2" wax left in the bottom. My warning labels even state that this much should be left in the jar for safety reasons (see Meridith's post EEK girl!!). Thanks everyone!Missydo you have a metric ruler? You could measure the wick tab necks to see, or check with your supplier, it should say on their site or even on your bag what mm size they are. I'm glad you got a good burn with this candle, but now it's got me wondering why your others weren't burning down that far??
MissyK
You know, it's got me wondering too. A friend of mine said the wick went out with about an inch of wax still left. My sister made the same comment. I guess they are just not used to having wax still left at the bottom of the candle. Around here in New Orleans, people burn alot of Circle E and Tyler Candles and both of those burn all the way down, so I guess they just find that strange that the wick goes out with wax still in the jar.OK, I just measured the necks. I got some ECO 12 & 14's and the neck is 10mm and I got some ECO 2's from BCN and they are 6mm. Does that sound about right? Which ones should I use?Missy

You have to use a wick that gives you a good burn, throw etc. and those that you listed are three different sizes. Which size wick was giving you the best burn? Can you get those same wicks with a shorter wick tab (the 6mm)?
MissyK
I'm sorry. I'm talking about 3 different jars here. But, I've figured it out in the meantime. I bought ECO wicks from Lonestar and BCN with 2 different size necks. I didn't realize this until tonight when I measured because it doesn't say on the bag. I also went to their websites and checked. I just need to reorder the 12's & 14's from BCN with the 6mm neck tabs. Thanks everyoneMissy
