jchernyb
I have noticed quite a bit of soot lately coming from my candles on all of my fans and even on my walls. I use a 50/50 blend and also J223. My FO load is about 10%. Believe it or not, I even opened up my frig door and there was soot inside. My repairman told me that when you open up the door of the frig, it sucks whatever is in the room in the frig, including soot.....didnt even notice it until he pointed it out. Would alot of this problem be eliminated if I used soy? Thanks alot!
Candle Man
It could be the type of wick or wick size also can be to much FO.Yes soy does produce less soot, if wicked right, but it also produces white soot, so there is still soot you just can't see it as well. candlebean
If you're happy with the wax you are using, you might just want to try wicking down to see if that reduces the soot problem...and make sure that your wicks are trimmed each time you light your candle... Grumpy Girl
Just a thought, but the 10% FO load might be your first clue.
jchernyb
I am using 3" diameter containers and the wicks are CD-10 and HTP-104. I have great melt pool with 1 wick and no side hangup. The FO is from Just Scents and it is Cinnamon Red Hots, among others. Thanks for any help.
Anna
When I first started out ,and was doing alot of testing,I had soot. Not so much anymore, since I learned what size wick to use. This is just my opinion,if you have to use Fo at 10% in you wax to get a hot throw, you need to change supplier. smart tart
Just a thought, but the 10% FO load might be your first clue. Just thought this worthy of repeating.......
Laura
i would cut back on the fo...have you tried it @ 1 oz per pound? some fo's can cause smoking @ 1.5 oz per pound. cut back on it and see if it burns better. or try one that doesn't require that high of a fragrance load to throw well. jchernyb
I am going to give it a try at 1 oz per lb and see what happens. Thanks for all the suggestions!
