Butter Question

I bought some shea butter on the classifieds maybe 2 months ago. Used it yesterday in Cp. Should it have any odor? The smell is "sharp". Only word I can use to describe. Not a bad smell (never smelled rancid oils) just different. I bought 2 containers & don't notice odor in other jar. Did I get bad butter?

Virgin Shea butter has a pretty strong smoky sort of smell, a lot of people find it unpleasant. More refined shea butter has less of a scent. I think it depends on what company the shea is from and how refined it is as to how strong is smells. You should contact the person you bought it from and find out if it is virgin shea, if so the smell is normal.

I've used up to 30% shea in a CP recipe and never had the smell come through. Did you use FO? Could it have been the FO?

Are you saying the shea smelled or the shea smelled through the soap?

I cannot stand the smell of unrefined shea butter. ACK!! Thats why I only use refined. LOL The smell turns my stomach. :lipsrseal

No, the shea itself has a sharp odor. Did not come through in soap. Maybe just how it's supposed to smell I guess.
