AtomicOpera
When we moved into our new house several years ago, we painted out honey cabinets, bright white and also all of the woodwork (baseboards, crown moulding etc.) anyway, I did not make candles at this time, but burned 2 yankee candles daily. I started to wash my new pretty white cabinets one day after living there about 3 months, the water I used turned gray and their were grey streaks all over everything! Even in freezer on the ice bin! Now check this out, that is what made me want to start making clean burning candles. I thought, what the heck is my 2 year old breathing in? What are we breathing? So started making soy candles. Now, I have been making soy candles for 4 years and the new house we are in now (1 year now) is starting to get the grey streaks on blinds and even the white kitchen television. We had electric heat at the first hosue and gas at this one. What gives?
Brenda (OH)
I am trying to find out "what gives" - and really appreciate everyone on this board providing info. I am glad you can relate to what I have going on. Today, I am cleaning . . .even though those who are trying to figure out my problem like to run their fingers across the black stuff to feel it. I can't take it anymore - If I find anything out I will definately be posting to let everyone know!!!
LyndaJ
I don't have any soot on my walls or other places that I have noticed. Maybe been too busy making candles to notice or clean:laugh2: But when my DH took out the filter from the airconditioner, he said it was really dark with soot. Brenda (OH)
I just found this link and I am giving up on everything but burning candles as my problem for the time being. If anyone has any other suggestions I will greatly welcome them with open arms. http://homeenergy.org/archive/hem.dis.anl.gov/eehem/98/980109.html#98010905
Mtngrl
... I began to notice in the winter months and more so into spring that I have a black residue inside my cupboards on tupperware ...ME TOO! The odd thing is that I'm seeing it on some things like plastic mixing bowl lids & a particular plastic cup. In fact, when I unloaded the dishwasher this morning, I was wondering AGAIN what was going on. I hadn't made any connection to candle-making before, but now I have to wonder. julie
Two gals I know had to have their houses professionally cleaned from burning Yankee candles! Their ins. actually paid for it. Gee...maybe I should quit trying to make sootless candles & I could finally get my spring cleaning done! lol!Julie
