pamperme Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Got one yesterday..from someone claiming to be Ebay..wanting me to update my info..it was addressed to customer not my name..I sent it to ebay and then responded that is WAS a spoof! Glad I did not click on anything..just deleted it.so watch out for them. Quote
sudsnwicks Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I get these too. Even though I don't have an account with ebay! Quote
Meredith_D Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I get these often. The senders almost always bungle my email address in the "sent to" line. Don't know how it manages to still get to me :undecided . You just forward it to "Spoof" at Ebay dot com. Don't click on anything! Quote
Lorrie Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I get them all the time too. Heck I even got one that was a bill for a digital camera that I won off ebay. (I never bought it) So Be on the look out for those types of emails too. Quote
LindaColo Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I got a spoof from paypal claiming that I bought over $200 in books. It even had a button for payment dispute. Forwarded the email to paypal so they could take a look at it.I almost hit the dispute button, but my paypal did not reflect the payment. So, I knew the claim was just someone phishing. Quote
Meridith Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 These scams have been going around for a very long time - nothing new. Luckily most folks are aware of them and don't respond. Quote
SliverOfWax Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 It's common knowledge that if Ebay needs to contact you, they will do so through Ebay, not through your personal email address. Spoofs are a dime a dozen. Quote
itsmejeffd Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I've heard warnings of spoofs looking like they come from the IRS too. They say something about audits and ask you to update your information. Quote
Lorrie Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 There was one of these going around a couple of years ago. It was actually a virus. I've heard warnings of spoofs looking like they come from the IRS too. They say something about audits and ask you to update your information. Quote
BruceCarvesWax Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I always put my mouse over the links they provide in the spoof emails just to see the site that I would go to if I clicked it. Its always some crazy place, not <paypal.com> they always add to the addy with other junk before or after. I like to reply sometimes and put bad words in the password and user name section when it pops up. Bruce Quote

VerticallyEnhanced Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I get tons of them. I just fwd them all to either spoof@paypal.com and spoof@email.com. That way they can track it. Every single time I receive a message back saying "Thanks...yeah, that is not us." Quote
