Lorrie Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 How do you figure out the cost for these? I have a potential client that wants me to make them candles in their containers. Appartently they don't have time to do candles anymore and they want to out source it to me. They are going to be suppling the fragrances, containers, and lables. Which is fine with me. But how do I figure out the cost of testing the candles and such? I know that my time is worth something I just don't know how to figure that one out. Thanks Quote
northkountry Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 When doing refills we charge .50 per ounce. Quote
Accents Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Maybe your could charge them a one-time r&d or set-up fee? As far as figuring out what to charge per candle after that, I'm stumped. Quote
Vicky_CO Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I have done that before I do like any other wholesale cost times 2. Just don't forget to figure in a bit for extras like utiilies and the possiblitly of having to hire some one to help you. What I do for the extras is under 12 oz .25, 12 oz to 24 oz .50, 24 oz and up is .75 per candle to cover the extras. So my formula looks some thing like thiswax + wick + extras x 2 = value Quote

Because these aren't going to be my regular scents. These are going to be a new line just for this customer. They want something special. Quote
Vicky_CO Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 That is all part of the extras if you think about what you are really getting is .50 to 1.50 per jar for extras that should cover your development cost. No it won't cover it in one order but it will over time though. I would make sure and have a contract with them for a minimum of one year for at least 100 to 200 candles minimum per a month required. Lorrie Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 Thanks Vicki! If I have anymore questions I will pm you if that is ok?? Quote
KristinesShower Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 If I don't have to test first, I always charge 50¢ per ounce. If I have to test, they pay for all the tester candles (retail), then 50¢ an ounce. Quote
